Finally! After 3 years of attempts, failures, rewriting software, almost giving up, redesigns, we have a proven working solution for this very very common issue. Let’s dig into the details.
So what happens? Well, like other LOCA based displays, the glue delaminates over time and separates from the digitizer, causing lost or erratic touch response. This can reduce the control you have over your boat, or in some cases, completely disable it.
What is delamination?
The display panel consists of several layers of materials that have to be bonded or adhered together with a clear glue, called lamination.
Delamination occurs over time when the glue turns into a liquid and allows the layers to peel away.
This is the root cause of all of the common issues these displays experience.
What are the known symptoms when the glue delaminates?
Unresponsive or frozen touch response in some or all areas of the screen
Delaminated bubble appearance
Erratic, random touching when you aren’t controlling it. Also called phantom or ghost touch.
This is all due to the LCD display panel being defective and we can now replace only that component, reusing the other usable parts that don’t need to be scrapped.
What are your options?
These display units are end of life and no longer available- so as a result the prices have gone through the roof. Typically you will get a quote for $5,000 USD- $16,000 USD for a replacement panel.
No need to worry anymore! The MTC-6B repair service will have your unit fully restored with an upgraded, improved design quickly at our in-house Florida repair lab.
With this method, you can securely check out at our website here. You will then receive a pre-paid shipping label to send your unit in.
Within 3-5 business days, it will be repaired, tested, and sent back to you.
We remove the delaminated old LCD panel assembly, and replace it with a shiny new display assembly. If you need a new backlight module, we install one at the same time. The unit is fully tested and repackaged.
Your plastic housing and internal boards are reused- allowing for a lower price point as there is no issue with those components and no reason to throw them away.
MTC-6B offers several improvements over the original design_
Improved bonding method
Dark Blue anti glare
Anti fingerprints
Smoother touch
No hassles, no dealer visits or appointments, and no programming or calibration.
I am sure there are many other years/models that use this display. If you have any further information or photos, please feel free to email me or leave a comment below to help the boating community generate a complete list of vessels that can benefit from this service.
In addition to the defective touch panel, we also commonly see a black or or dim screen. This can be fixed also, at the same time as the touch screen with our upgraded backlight inverter module.
Our mission here is give to boat owners an option to keep their boat in use. Many times older electronics goes obsolete and is forgotten, driving up the price. However the boat mechanical equipment and hull is still totally useable and great. We can restore and refurbish your display to be an improved, upgraded design without spending a fortune at the parts department.
Here is a video showing more details_
This design was just approved for production which will take place in the coming weeks- and we should have inventory to open orders up early September 2023.
To control and verify quality, only mail-in service options will be available for the first several months. We will try to get a DIY option available for order next year some time.
The best way to stay informed and on the wait list is to add your email address here_ choose your preferred warranty (1 year standard, 3 year optional) and add your email to the box. As soon as parts are in, you will receive an email.
As always, please spread the word to other inboard boat owners, marinas, online clubs, etc that can benefit from a screen repair. There are some promo images below that you can share to FB groups. The boating community is a small closely knit group. Please post questions and comments on this page. Take care!
